Marriage Encounter

  • Marriage Encounter is designed for married couples who sincerely want to grow and live out the vows made on their wedding day.  Every couple can find new meaning and deeper love and respect during this weekend.  Even good marriages will become better.
  • Marriage Encounter is unique when compared with other marriage seminars and retreats in that this weekend is a very positive and private experience.  No one is asked or expected to share with anyone but their spouse.
  • Marriage Encounter helps you examine your relationship with each other and lays out practical things to do to enhance your communication with each other.  This process encourages you to identify strong points in your relationship and also helps you identify and address any weak points.  Couples often make meaningful discoveries in a positive and private atmosphere.
  • Marriage Encounter is a weekend away from home and family responsibilities where couples focus on the journey begun on their wedding day.  This is accomplished through a series of presentations that guide you to new and positive ways of looking at your marriage.
  • Presenters are dedicated, trained married couples who are certified to present special communication techniques and scripture-based ideas about marriage.  As they share experiences from their own marriages, these couples will be presenting information and real-life examples to illustrate helpful communication principles.
  • Each presentation lasts about one hour and is designed to encourage you to be aware of your own feelings in various aspects of your marriage.  Each session concludes with assignments that each husband and wife immediately work on and then share with their respected spouse.  (These private talks with your spouse are conducted away from the group.)
  • Encounter Weekends begin Friday evening and conclude 6:00 pm Sunday.  It is very important that couples plan to stay for the entire weekend.  When you register for the weekend, a private room is reserved for you.  Meals are provided Friday night through Sunday afternoon.  If at all possible, please come to the weekend well rested.

Each weekend is held in Grass Lake, MI (30 miles west of Ann Arbor).

There is no cost to attend a Marriage Encounter weekend.  (Weekend expenses are covered by Marriage Encounter alumni.)
